Barnesville schools awarded grants for several projects

BARNESVILLE — Barnesville Exempted Village School District received many grants and awards during the month of November, including some for new classroom atlases and Life Skills Program materials.

The Barnesville Area Education Foundation donated a little over $80,000 altogether to the district. Some of the donations went toward the Life Skills Program materials, purchase of new band instruments, classroom materials, new classroom atlases, tables for outdoor lunch and classes and lab equipment.

The board of education, including President Leslie Shultz, Vice President Tammy Wells, Ed Eberhart, Dennis Huntsman and Janice Miliken, recently accepted donations from different agencies, including from McDonald’s to middle school robotics, $200; Barnesville 200 Club, $300; boys’ basketball parents, $265; volleyball parents, $265; and wrestling parents, $265 to Athletics-Cooler.

The school also received a donation of $1,000 from Little Rocks Football Boosters for the turf and lighting project at the stadium and $500 from Minutemen for the same.

The board approved $69,000 to be paid to the Nutrition Group for November cafeteria supplies and services. It also approved Ohio School Boards Association annual membership dues and virtual transportation supervisor services for 2025 in the amount of $6,038.

The board then approved a tax valuation services agreement between the Barnesville BOE and the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center for 2025 at $4,000. Afterward, the board approved a public order and the corresponder “Then & Now” certificate for $4,152.96 paid to the Ohio Schools Council for the annual Bonefish subscription. Another $4,152,96 will be paid to the order of Zonar for the annual bus GPS subscription renewal.

New substitute staff will be at Barnesville schools for 2024-2024, including Lisa Snodgrass and Kaylee Graham.

Seniors at the school will be making an overnight trip March 5-7 to Camelback Resort in Tannersville, Pennsylvania. The FFA will make an overnight trip Feb. 22-23 to Caldwell for the FFA lock-in. FFA will take another overnight trip April 30 to May 2 to Columbus for the Ohio State FFA Convention.

Teacher Kimberly Lewis will be retiring at the end of the school year with her last day as May 27.

Barnesville Jr. High Softball is now recognized as a club sport, as approved by the board.

The board held a 22-minute closed door session.
