No injuries reported in Maynard fire
MAYNARD — Barton Volunteer Fire Department and Cumberland Trail Fire District were called to duty on Friday night on Hall Street in Maynard after a home there caught fire.
No occupants or firefighters were injured as a result of the blaze.
According to Barton Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Shane Smolenak, the Belmont County 911 Center was first notified of a potential structure fire at 10:08 p.m.
The Barton VFD arrived nine minutes later, and the fire was completely extinguished by 11:40 p.m., though Smolenak said that the bulk of the fire was under control by 10:30 p.m.
Barton VFD was first on the scene with Cumberland Trail providing mutual aid to douse the flames. Belmont County sheriff’s deputies were also on the scene to assist in any way necessary, such as traffic control.
Smolenak said that once Barton VFD arrived on the scene, members realized the flames were coming from the back right corner of the home.
“Crews made an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the fire,” Smolenak said.
He added that after the fire was out, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene. It ruled the blaze an accidental fire.
The fire is still under investigation but is presumed to have started in the bedroom. The master bedroom and bathroom were ruled a complete loss, but the rest of the home sustained only moderate smoke and heat damage.
Smolenak said that there is not yet an official cause as to why the fire began.
He added that no injuries or deaths occurred as a result of the fire.
