Only six candidates seeking office in Belmont County
MARTINS FERRY — Only six Eastern Ohio candidates met Wednesday’s deadline to seek their party’s nomination for office in the May 6 primary election.
All six candidates sought to have their names placed on the ballot in Belmont County.
No candidates filed to seek nominations in Harrison County or Monroe County during the primary.
The general election is Nov. 4.
Belmont County Board of Elections Deputy Director Kamron Chervenak said the board will meet at 1 p.m. Monday to certify the validity of those who have filed. They include:
President of Council in Martins Ferry: Democrat Phil Wallace, 801 Springhaven Drive.
First Ward Council in Martins Ferry: Republican Robert P. Hunker, 915 South Zane Highway.
Second Ward Council in Martins Ferry: Republican Spencer Echemann, 427 Elm Street.
Village Council in Barnesville: Republican Tony C. Johnson, 725 E. Main Street.
Village Council in Bellaire: Republican Janet Lee Richardson, 210 Second Avenue.
Village Council in Shadyside: Democrat Robert Gorrell, 185 W. 45th Street.
The deadline for voter registration for the May primary is April 7. The Belmont County Board of Elections office, located at 52180 National Road East, St. Clairsville, will be open until 9 p.m. on April 7 to ensure voters have ample time to register.
Ohioans can also visit the secretary of state’s website, ohiosos.gov, to check their registration status, update their registration or to register to vote. To register online, people must provide the following:
Ohio driver’s license or Ohio identification card number
Name
Date of Birth
Address
Last four digits of your Social Security number
To obtain a voter registration form and register to vote in person, visit any of the following locations:
The office of the secretary of state;
The office of any of the 88 county boards of elections;
The office of the registrar or any deputy registrar of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles;
Public libraries;
Public high schools or vocational schools;
County treasurers’ offices; or
Offices of designated agencies, including: The Department of Job and Family Services; The Department of Health (including the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program); The Department of Mental Health; The Department of Developmental Disabilities; Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities; or the office of any state-assisted college or university responsible for providing assistance to students with disabilities.
Early in-person absentee voting for the May primary begins April 8 at county boards of elections across the state.
