ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office redesigned its website as a new sheriff settles into his role.
Sheriff James Zusack started his term in January, which meant it was time for the website to get revamped, fiscal officer Kitty Paboucek said. But with all the same information available, the county’s sheriff’s office website still serves the community with jail information and road reports.
Paboucek said the goal of the redesign was to make the site more user friendly and to provide the public with contact information for everybody who works at the office.
The designers redid the site in January when Zusack took the role.
Paboucek and administrative assistant Barb Blake worked with Brock Rogers from 10T Web Design. Paboucek and Blake gave Rogers their ideas and needs, and they worked together to come up with the end result. Rogers completed several different designs, and the two chose what they liked from them.
A report on road levels in the winter will now be shown in a banner on the homepage for easy access to the community. There will be no banner if there is no emergency level for road conditions but if there is one, the banner will be red, telling people what level it is and what that means.
Another new feature on the site is a concealed carry portal, where people can go online and make an appointment to either get a concealed carry license or renew their existing license.
People will also be able to request public records, see the sex offender registry in the county and read about inmates in the jail. People will see the jail roster and be able to put money on someone’s account, and arrange to visit them. Under the information tab, people can report low level, nonviolent crimes.
The site is also home to information about sheriff’s sales, mental health resources, a place where people can give feedback, a list of past sheriffs and other important information.
The picture on the homepage will also be changing periodically because the sheriff’s office patrol units will be taking pictures of places in Belmont County for the website. Paboucek said it’s an effort to show off the county, and the office didn’t hire a photographer, but instead, the deputies will be showing off their work.
The site can be reached at belmontsheriffohio.gov.
“It was necessary. It wasn’t that we wanted to, it was necessary,” Paboucek said of the update. “We needed to bring it to Sheriff’s Zusack’s website.”
