Francis named new advertising director for The Times Leader

MARTINS FERRY — For more than two decades, Heather Francis has worked throughout Odgen Newspapers to build stronger bridges between the company’s publications and the business community. She will continue to do that with a keen focus on Eastern Ohio after being named advertising director for The Times Leader.
Francis steps into the role most recently held by Pam Bennett, who retired earlier this year.
“I am truly honored and excited to step into the role of advertising director for The Times Leader,” Francis said. “The Ohio Valley is home to incredible businesses, and I look forward to working with them to develop strong advertising strategies that help them grow and connect with their customers.”
A Wheeling native, Francis began with Ogden Newspapers in 2001 as an outside sales representative for The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register. She quickly transitioned into the role of special projects manager for Brand Builders, which helped local businesses effectively amplify their message and increase awareness of their respective brands.
After 18 years with Brand Builders, Francis moved to Ogden’s corporate division as a special projects manager, working with all of the company’s newspapers on promotions and building revenue. Following that, she transitioned to the role of regional advertising consultant for the company’s Ohio Valley papers before stepping into her current position as advertising director.
There, she will collaborate with the valley’s businesses to help tell their stories and attract clients through The Times Leader’s various platforms.
“This opportunity allows me to further my career with newspapers that have such a rich history of serving the community,” she added. I’m eager to collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and our dedicated team to make a positive impact. I look forward to building lasting relationships and helping businesses in the Ohio Valley thrive.”
Jim Spanner, general manager of the The Times Leader, said Francis’ energy and enthusiasm, along with her deep connections to the Ohio Valley, will serve her well in the role.
“We are excited to have Heather move into this leadership role as advertising director,” Spanner said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Heather focuses on understanding and fulfilling the print and digital needs of our clients, and she will be able to assist and guide our sales team to do the same.”
Francis is a graduate of Wheeling Park High School and attended both Wheeling Jesuit College and West Liberty State College. She lives in Wheeling with her husband Bruce and has two sons Caleb, 20, and Drake, 13.
