Martins Ferry PD recognized for excellence in training, policy management

MARTINS FERRY — Chief Jerry E. Murphy announced Friday that the Martins Ferry Police Department received recognition for excellence in policy management and training for a second consecutive year.

The recognition for the department’s work in 2024 comes from Lexipol, which Murphy called the leading provider of solutions that empower performance excellence in public safety. This is the second consecutive year that the Martins Ferry Police Department has been recognized by Lexipol.

The Lexipol Connect program tracks the Martins Ferry Police Department’s performance on five metrics proven to measure success in policy management. The Martins Ferry Police Department achieved Gold, the highest level of recognition offered, for consistent and effective policy dissemination to personnel, timely policy updates as laws change, and officer training on policies.

“Strong policies and consistent training are vital to the success of law enforcement operations and our commitment to serving the community. Being recognized again by Lexipol Connect highlights our focus on continuous improvement, professionalism, and safety,” Murphy said. “This recognition would not be possible without the dedication of all our personnel.”

According to a news release from Murphy, Martins Ferry Police Department’s excellence in policy and policy training enhances community safety by ensuring consistent and effective response based on state and federal law and nationally recognized best practices.
