MARK MURPHY
Mark E. Murphy, age 54 of Massillon, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024. He was born in Bellaire, Ohio on March 20, 1969. Upon graduating from Shadyside High School in 1987, he began his long career as a Firefighter in Bellaire and Shadyside. Mark was then employed by the Perry Fire Department in 1990, as well as Ambulance Associates in 1991, remaining with them until their closure in 2021. Mark was part of the Firefighter Union, the Perry Township Professional Firefighter- Local 3960, and was also named the Perry Township Fireman of the Year in 2023 serving as the head of the Fire Bureau. Mark loved all things Irish, playing his drums, sharpening his knives, the great outdoors, ocean and space documentaries, seeking the truth in everything, and his relationship with God. His greatest love was his two sons, Michael and Travis.
Mark was preceded in death by his father William Murphy. He is survived by his children Travis Murphy (Paige Rushe) of Perry Township, and Michael Murphy of Shadyside, Ohio; their mothers Sheyanne Hawkins of Bellaire and Heather Schmidt of Massillon; his mother and step- father Bobbie and Thomas Ferguson of Shadyside; brother Tim Murphy of Shadyside; and dearest friend and confidante, Billi Jo Long of Massillon.
Family and friends will be received at the Whipple Avenue Baptist Church on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. Last Alarm service to begin at 5 p.m., with memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Mark’s name, to the Akron Children’s Aluminum Cans for Burned Children.
