DAVID GARAN

David Mozie Garan, 85, of Dover, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, November 16, 2024.

Born in Jefferson County, David was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Mozie) Garan. He began his career with Nickles Bakery in Martins Ferry and eventually transferred to Navarre where he became their Chief Corporate Engineer and managed their bakeries in Lima, Fremont and Elkhart, Indiana. Following his retirement after 40 years of service to Nickles, David continued to work as a bakery consultant in Malaysia, Israel and Jamaica, with his wife, Dorothy traveling with him and keeping him company.

David loved traveling with Dorothy and have actually circled the globe. Traveling in the United States, they would often take their dogs and their camper, making many friends and memories along the way. David dearly loved his dogs, Max, a Lab mix and Golden Retrievers, Casey and Sammy and would often be seen walking them nightly in the neighborhood.

David was a member of the Beach City Lutheran Church for over 42 years and recently a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Bolivar. He served both churches as Financial Director, a member of the Property Committee and anywhere else that he was needed. He loved being part of the talent shows, demonstrating his skills as a magician. He was talented with anything mechanical, often inventing things to make life easier at both home and for his job. He also loved to garden and his deep red roses were legendary.

David is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Bazar) Garan, whom he married on November 5, 1960 and recently they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary; two sons, David (Maryjane) Garan of Strasburg and Scott (Melanie) Garan of Kent; two grandsons, Nick Garan and Michael (Taylor) Garan; three great grandchildren, Mason, Marshall and Malin and a sister, Dorothy Puskarich of Hopedale.

In addition to his parents, four siblings, Mary, Thomas, Betty and an infant brother Donald, also preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9:30 to 11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a service celebrating David’s life will begin at 11 AM with Rev. Michael Pozzuto officiating. In keeping with his wishes, a private burial will take place at a later date.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 156 Poplar Street, Bolivar, Ohio 44612.
