SHARON YEMICH

Sharon K. Yemich, 72, of Lakewood, Ohio, died December 11, 2024, in Fairview Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born October 12, 1952, in Wheeling, West Virginia, daughter of the late John and Marjorie Klosek Yemich.

Sharon attended the Fairpoint Grade School and then the Seton Central High School for her Freshman and Sophomore years and then finished her final two years at St. Clairsville High School where she graduated in 1970. Following her passion, she enrolled in Ohio University, Athens, Ohio where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. Her career began serving on the news and copy desk at the Wheeling News Register, then moving on to the Charleston Gazette before she accepted a position with the Cleveland Plain Dealer where she served for 27 years retiring from the Plain Dealer as a design director.

Sharon was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Lakewood and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairpoint. She was involved and held membership in many journalistic organizations. She was a member of the St. Clairsville High School and the Ohio University Alumni Associations, a member of the Communications Workers of America, as well as a Board Member of the JLT Fund which was established to provide scholarships to female law students at the Case Western Reserve University. Sharon loved traveling, especially to the Ocean with her family. She enjoyed jig-saw puzzles and rooting for her favorite sports team, the Cleveland Indians (Guardians).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Littman; a niece Jodi Littman Tomaszewski; and her loving dog, Murphy.

Sharon is survived by her brother, John Yemich of Fairpoint; a brother-in-law, Matt Littman and his friend, Lil Monahan of New Athens; two nephews, Matthew (Melissa) Littman of St. Clairsville and Jeff Tomaszewski of Concord Township, Ohio; great nieces and nephews who she loved as her own children, Emma, Jaylan, Chloe, Paige and Jace who all called her Aunt Shoo; many relatives and friends in the Ohio Valley and special friends acquired during the 30+ years living in the Cleveland area.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Tuesday, December 17th for a Memorial Vigil Service at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas Chillog Officiating then followed by memorial visitation from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Friday, December 27th at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville with Father Thomas Chillog the Celebrant. A private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Union Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Cleveland, Ohio area after the New Year with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
