MATTHEW TIMKO

Matthew C. Timko, 100, of Adena, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at Forest Hill in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was born on December 16, 1924, in Barton, Ohio, to the late John M. Timko and Margaret (Haranzo) Timko.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene (Ciechomski) Timko; brother, John (Tim) Timko; sister, Beatrice Duggan; sisters-in-law, Virginia Timko and Sherry Sawchuk; brothers-in-law, Thomas Duggan and Phillip Sawchuk; in-laws, Elsie and Henry (Hank) Ciechomski; nieces, Mary Jo Peterson, Christina Rudy, and Amy Duggan; and nephew, Patrick Duggan.

Matt is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Bob) Burlenski of Adena; son, Tim Timko (Traci Hughes Bartley) of Adena; grandchildren, Monica (Christin Arraujo) Mann, Mara (Dianne Kreptowski) Bowman, Jacob and Alex Timko; great-grand daughter, Alyssa (Corbin) Hartory; and many beloved nieces and nephews, including Jeff (Kate) Timko, Randy (Julie) Timko, and Jim Timko, all residing in Florida, Margee (Doug) Jones in Colorado, Shelly (Ron) Mogolich in Idaho, and Mary DeLisio in Ohio.

Matt was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, where he married the love of his life, Marlene. In his many years as a member he served as an Elder and a Trustee. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Matt served in the South Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Ohio Valley and built a career at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Yorkville Plant, where he worked until his retirement. Following his time at the steel plant, Matt worked at Scott Lumber until retiring for a second time. In his retirement years, he found great joy in spending time with his cherished grandchildren.

Matt was a dedicated member of several organizations, including the Masonic Lodge in Steubenville, the Scottish Rite, Osiris Shrine in Wheeling, Osiris Temple Legion of Honor, the American Legion in Dillonvale, and the VFW in Yorkville.

The family would like to express our most sincere thank you to the staff at Forest Hill, for the care they provided to Matt.

Family and friends will be received at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Bridgeport, Ohio, on Friday, January 10, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 11:00 AM at Wilson Funeral Home in Bridgeport, with burial to follow at Holly Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Pleasant, Ohio.
