ANNA MIZER
Anna Lee Mizer, 89, of rural Cadiz, Ohio, died peacefully at home on March 3, 2025, with her three sons nearby. She was born in Cambridge, Ohio on July 19, 1935, to Chester M. and Helen Gallagher Warner, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953, and from Riverside White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio in 1956. She married David E. Mizer (of Cadiz) on March 18, 1956.
They moved to Harrison County following David’s military service in Alaska. Anna Lee had a long career as a registered nurse at Twin City Hospital (Dennison, Ohio), The Harrison County Home, Harrison Community Hospital (Cadiz), and as a home health nurse, before retiring in 1991.
Anna Lee loved her church family. She was a longtime member of the Cadiz Presbyterian Church and the Cadiz Women’s Civic Club. She also worked to support various other charities and causes that were close to her heart — including the American Cancer Society, Harrison County Cancer Crusaders, Ourant Schoolhouse in Nottingham Township, and she volunteered monthly at the Cadiz Salvation Army.
In all her years of retirement, Anna Lee stayed in touch with her White Cross School of Nursing classmates, and met regularly with a group of them who lived locally, and visited with others who were distant. Those friendships remained very dear to Anna Lee.
David and Anna Lee traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and to many overseas destinations. After retirement, they looked forward to spending the winter months in Scottsdale, Arizona (sharing time with Anna Lee’s niece, Sandy Banker, and her extended family), and in Florida. But Harrison County was her home (for 65 years with David), and she returned there for her final days. Anna Lee faced with strength and resolve more than her share of medical challenges throughout her life, and prayed that she would survive so she could care for David in his later years. She was immensely grateful to be able to care for him and be by David’s side when he passed on July 30, 2023, although the remaining 19 months without him were not easy.
Anna Lee is survived by three sons: Richard (Cristy Hill) of Washington Court House, Ohio, Tim (Teri) of Cadiz, and Steve (Gina) of Smyrna, Georgia. She was so very proud of her three grandchildren: Erin (Drew) Mizer Helton of New York City, Andrew Mizer of Schenectady, NY, and Matthew Mizer (Sidney Croskey, fiancee) of Pittsburgh, PA.
In addition to her parents, Anna Lee was preceded in death by her husband David, brother, Charles Curtis Warner, and sister, Iona Mae Gregg.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with burial at Union Cemetery in Cadiz. Memorial donations are suggested to Harrison County Cancer Crusaders, Ourant Schoolhouse, or the Cadiz Salvation Army.
