DAVID WALTERS

David Lee Walters, 74, of Powhatan Point, succumbed to his battle with cancer on March 9, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David C. and Charlotte E. Walters, his brother, Thomas E. Walters, his father and mother in-law, Earl E. and Virginia Dierkes, and his sister-in-law, Mary E. Dierkes of Powhatan Pt, OH. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita J. Dierkes Walters, his sons Brent A. (Jodi) Walters of Glenville, WV, and Eugene D. Walters (Justin Lavy) of Columbus, OH., two grandchildren: Jack C. Walters, of Monroe, LA and Mary-Charlotte Walters of Dubach, LA. Dave is survived by his brother, Charles J. Walters of Adena, OH, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Sally Hotlosz of Powhatan Point, OH, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, E. David (Nancy) Dierkes, Belmont, OH. His nieces and nephews, Kim Hotlosz, Thomas J. (Christina) Walters, Jennifer and Trevor Dierkes,
In 2011 Dave retired from his position as Lockmaster at the Hannibal Lock and Dam, U.S. Army Corps. Of Engineers after 38 years. He served two terms on Powhatan Village Council. He was the Financial Secretary for the Powhatan Presbyterian Church and a ruling elder. Dave was a 50 plus year member and served as a Past Master of Clarington Masonic Lodge F&AM #597 He served as a Past District Deputy of the 18th Masonic District and Scholarship Chairperson. Dave was the Past District Education officer and past Lodge Educational officer. He is a member of the Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite.
Dave graduated from River High School in 1968; he was a volunteer for the football program for many years as a spotter. In 1973 he graduated from Fairmont State University and was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.
Family and friends of this devoted husband, loving father and outstanding friend/ neighbor and citizen will be received at Bauknecht- Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, 186 Main St. Powhatan Point, OH. from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 with Rev. Sharon Dennard officiating the funeral at 11:00 A.M. Thursday. Internment will follow in the Powhatan Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 7:45 P.M., Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
