FANNY STAMBOLIS

Fanny Stambolis, age 99, passed away quietly on Thursday April 17, 2025, 2025. She was born in St.Clairsville , Ohio on February 18, 1926 to the late Gust and Eva Mehallis.
Fanny spent all but 11 years of her life in St.Clairsville. Those 11 years were happily spent in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Constantine (Gus) Stambolis, after only 13 years of blissful marriage. Also preceding her in death were a sister Mary Kerkentzes, and brothers George and Emanuel Mehallis.
Fanny was an active member of the Martins Ferry Greek Orthodox Church, never missing a Sunday, as well as teaching Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the church’s philoptochos (charitable organization).
After being widowed at an early age, Fanny earned a degree in practical nursing and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Martins Ferry hospital for 26 years, where she made many friends andworked enthusiastically with a happy demeanor.
Fanny raised two sons on her own in St.Clairsville, playing the role of both father and mother.
Having raised two sons, Fanny grew to love sports, mainly football, basketball, and baseball. She lived and died with her Buckeyes, Steelers, and Pirates. She watched every game on TV, and would routinely discuss game results with both sons on the phone.
Fanny also loved working in her yard and continued to cut her own grass to a very old age. Fanny took care of her home, always cleaning and never letting it fall into disrepair.
Fanny drove her car until she was 98 happily driving to church, the grocery store , and the bank. When her car finally died, she was crestfallen. You could say that she outlived her car.
Fanny was a lifetime “caregiver ” always taking care of others with a smile on her face. When she reached a point in her life where she required care from others, it was difficult for her.
Surviving are her sons: Dean (Kirania) Stambolis and James (Judy) Stambolis; grandchildren Melina, Melanie, and Stephanie; great-grand children Athan, Costa, and Lexie. Also surviving is a brother Stephen (Martha) Mehallis. Fanny is additionally survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Her family was very important to her. She unconditionally loved them all. She prided herself in acknowledging birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc., to the very end of her days.
