ZORA KERNIK

Zora Marie Kernik, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was born on March 14, 1930 to Mary Bone (Zec) and John Vichich, in Powhatan Point, Ohio, and lived to the age of 95.

Zora dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a warm and nurturing environment filled with love and care. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to her loved ones will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Kernik; her son Bennie Kay; her brothers, Tom, George, and Nick Vichich, as well as her sisters Kata Snively, Rose Vehar, Margaret Matuszewski and Mitzie Farano.

Zora leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her daughter, Melanie (Mark) Cook; her son, Robert (Cindy) Kernik; and her cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Jill) Kernik, Bethany (Ryan) Lucas, and Brittany (Anthony) Reasbeck. Her memory will also live on in her great- grandchildren, Gunner, Griffin, Maddie, Max, and Rilyn, along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bauknecht- Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 186 Main Street, Powhatan Point, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Father Daneil Heusel. Zora will be laid to rest at Powhatan Cemetery.

Zora will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers Zora wished for memorial contributions to be made to The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Chapter.
