OVAC All-Star Basketball rosters set
Sixty of the area’s premier senior basketball players will get at least more chance to shine in front of the area fans.
The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference announced the rosters and coaching staffs for the annual OVAC Samuel A. Mumley All-Star Basketball Games Friday afternoon.
The game will be staged on Sunday, April 2 at Wheeling Park High School. The girls will tip off at 1 p.m. and the boys game will begin approximately 20 minutes after the girls game concludes.
Along with the games, there will be several special presentations of awards as well as scholarships.
Halftime of each game will feature a skill contest. The girls will have a 3-point shootout, while a dunk contest will be staged for the boys.
BOYS
River’s Mark Romick and Harrison Central’s Aaron Foldi were chosen to coach the Buckeye State squad.
Their roster includes a representative of 13 different schools.
River and Union Local both had a pair of players selected. Representing the Pilots are Brody Lollathin and Ty Long. The Jets picks were D.J. Butts and Beezer Porter.
The balance of the roster includes: Elijah Brock, Shadyside; Garrett Burga, Buckeye Trail; Jakob Dowling, Bellaire; Xander Fairchild, Shenandoah; Isaiah Greathouse, Wellsville; Phaeton Hill, Steubenville; Denali Jackson, Martins Ferry; Logan Kuczykowski, Indian Creek; Bede Lori, Caldwell; Jace Madzia, Harrison Central and Tyler Stevenson, Dover.
The West Virginia squad is being coached by Cameron’s Tom Hart and Weir’s Anthony Santangelo. Their roster features a representative from nine schools.
Morgantown — the top-ranked big-school team in the Mountain State — has three representatives including Cam Danser, Brody Davis and Garrison Kisner.
Wheeling Park had a pair of players — Brett Phillips and Cole Wilkerson — chosen. Linsly, which won the OVAC Class 3A title, will be represented by Carter Anderson and Gavin Jackson.
John Marshall, which was a senior-laden club, will send Roman Gray and Brennan Sobutka.
Parkersburg South has a pair in Aiden Blake and Nathan Plotner.
The balance of the roster includes: Luke Amaimeier, Madonna; Cole Burkett, Cameron; Kohlton St. Clair, Clay-Battelle and Damarr Turner, Weir.
GIRLS
The Ohio girls squad will be guided by Harrison Central’s Chace Smith and Warren’s Brad Venham.
Ohio’s roster includes representatives of 11 schools.
Monroe Central earned a pair of bids with Hallie Bommer and Abby Thompson getting enough votes. Buckeye Trail’s Josie Creighton and Kaydence Starr were selected.
Warren has a pair of players in Sophie Cochran and Alex Frazee. River’s Hannah Raper and Rylee Knight were both chosen as well.
The balance of the roster includes: Maddy Butler, Harrison Central; Pamela Johnson, Edison; Megan Malin, St. Clairsville; Riley Medley, Marietta; Kara Ramsey, Frontier; Reagan Vinskovich, Union Local; and Charli Wickham, Shenandoah.
West Virginia’s squad will be guided by Wheeling Central’s Roberta Olejasz and Oak Glen’s Ryan Wells.
The Mountaineer girls squad has 11 schools represented.
Wheeling Central will be represented by Lily Vogrin and Keiera Wilkinson.
Morgantown, which won the OVAC Class 5A title, earned a bid for Lindsay Bechtel and Mia Henkins.
University has a pair of players — Eden Gibson and Emily Sharkey — involved. Oak Glen, which played in the OVAC 4A title game, received spots for Carson Barr and Lizzie Kell. Brooke’s duo of Ava Bolen and Angelina Lipolli was chosen.
The remainder of the squad includes: Sophie Abraham, Wheeling Park; Lilie Babiczuk, John Marshall; Shea McCoy, Madonna; Carrie Rhodes, South and McKenzie Thomas, Paden City.
