PREP ROUNDUP: St. C. baseball wins at Dover; HC softball wins at Cambridge
CAMERON – After getting no hits on Monday in a loss to Linsly the Dragons busted out the bats with 12 safeties against visiting River, 9-8.
Carson Makris drilled a three-run homer for River, while Max Castro had a solo shot. Lucas Dennis knocked in two runs with a single and double. Colton Cisar and Hunter Nething each recorded an RBI.
Steubenville CC 8, Shadyside 1
STEUBENVILLE – Shadyside fell to 0-2 on the young season after dropping an 8-1 reversal to Steubenville Catholic Central at Vacarro Field.
The Tigers received two singles from Tyler Stottlemyer. Luke Crozier drove in the Tigers run.
St. C. 6, Dover 4
DOVER — St. Clairsville overcame five errors and four walks to pick up its second win in as many starts Tuesday with a 6-4 win over Dover.
The Red Devils received solid pitching from junior southpaw Hunter Hoffman, who worked into the sixth with five strikeouts and three walks. He gave way to Mason Myers, who picked up the save. Myers also had two singles and two RBI.
The Devils received an impressive offensive showing from Noah Turley. He had two singles, a double and four RBI.
SOFTBALL
River 7, Fort Frye 4
SARDIS – River opened its season impressively and picked up a 7-4 victory against invading Fort Frye Tuesday afternoon.
Ava Wohnhas was the winner in the circle with seven strikeouts and just a walk. She also had three singles.
At the plate, River received a solo home run and a single from Addison Kovach and a solo home run and a double from senior Rylee Knight.
Senior Hannah Raper had a single, double and drove in a run.
Harrison Central 7, Cambridge 3
CAMBRIDGE – The Huskies struck for four runs in the top of the first and went on to post its second win in as many days against the Bobcats inside City Park.
Emma Skinner picked up the pitching win with seven strikeouts and nary a walk. Lizzy Clelland had a single, double and drove in two runs. Rylee Smith had two singles and a RBI, while Aubrey Wood drove in a run with a single.
Shadyside 8, Monroe 4
WOODSFIELD – Invading Shadyside made it two wins in a row to open the season by toppling the Seminoles Tuesday afternoon.
Ariana Saxton was strong in the circle with four strikeouts and two walks. She also helped her own cause with a double, single and RBI. Bella Honeywell had two singles and a like number of RBI.
Monroe Central received three singles and two RBI from Karlie Haslam. Kynzi Bishop had two singles and a RB..
TRACK AND FIELD
John Glenn’s girls and St. Clairsville’s boys claimed victories in a quadrangular at Red Devil Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
Emma Henry won a pair of sprint events. She claimed the 100 and 200 in 12.66 and 26.83, respectively.
Bellaire’s Allyson Vingia was the only other area double winner. She won the shot put (30-4) and the discus (107-4)
On the boys’ side, St. Clairsville’s Perry Patrone won the shot put with a mark of 54-3 and the discus with a twirl of 148-4.
Grant Swider won the long jump at 20-7 1/2 and the triple jump at 41-11.
