Bellaire cages Bridgeport Bulldogs

BRIDGEPORT — Raekwon Pettigrew scored 31 points as Bellaire outlated Bridgeport, 69-67, Tuesday night in boys’ high school basketball action on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

The visiting Big Reds led 15-13 after one quarter and 32-31 at the half. They enjoyed a 19-15 advantage in the third quarter before the Bulldogs’ rally fell short.

Bellaire (1-0) made 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Caleb Jewell backed Pettigrew with 15 points. Maurice Webb added nine.

Jaleel Vincent paced Bridgeport (1-1) with 26, nine of those coming in the fourth quarter. Avery Jackson had 14, Coen Brinker 11 and Jaki Threet 10.

Barnesville 55, Shadyside 41

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks (1-0) received 17 points from Casey Carpenter, 14 from Braeden Willis and a dozen from Ryker Willis in their victory over the visiting Tigers (0-1).

Blake Burkhart also tallied nine for Barnesville which outscored Shadyside 19-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Ryan Collins paced the Tigers with 11 points. Wyatt Parr added eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Linsly 54, Cameron 30

WHEELING — The Cadets got their season off on the right foot Tuesday with a convincing victory over the Cameron Dragons.

Haylen Cook scored 28 points to lead Linsly, scoring 26 in the first half, where Linsly led 33-12 going into the break. Irina Margineanu and Abby White each had six.

Maci Neely scored a dozen to lead Cameron. Macy Bertram followed with nine.

Monroe Central Sweeps Linsly

Boys

The Seminoles defeated the Cadets 1,950 to 1,453.

Owen Weckbacher led Monroe Central with a high game of 261 and 2-game total of 426. He was followed by James Williams with a 182 and a 338.

Girls

The Seminoles outrolled the Cadets 1,583 to 1,235. Addason Tomlin led the way with a high game of 172 and 2-game total of 331. Radisson Norman. Added a 170 and a series of 325.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Frontier 47, River 43

HANNIBAL — The Pilots dropped a tightly contested overtime game against the Cougars on Monday at the R.L. Potts gymnasium.

Frontier was led by Kelsey Dye who scored 19 points and Anna Bowersock who scored 14. River had two players score 10 points, Maci Isaly and Kaylee Hagan, and two players score eight points, Reese Hobbs and Zoey Fox.

The game was tied 40-40 at the end of regulation. Dye scored four points and Bowersock three in overtime.

River (1-2) next plays at Martins Ferry on Dec. 7. Frontier (3-0) faces St. Marys at home on Dec. 5.
