Union Local wins with buzzer-beater

MORRISTOWN — Brody Gregor’s layup at the buzzer lifted Union Local to a 50-48 victory over visiting Indian Creek Tuesday night in boys’ high school basketball action inside ‘The Hangar.’

The Redskins’ Caleb Bodo went 3-for-3 from the line to tie the game with 5 seconds left, setting the stage for Gregor’s heroics.

Union Local’s Dre Saunders pumped in 26 points to lead all scorers. He had seven points in each of the first, second and fourth quarters. Brandon Mehl added 10.

Bodo was Indian Creek’s lone double-digit scorer with 18. Nickey Eddy had nine and Carl Bonecutter eight.

Magnolia 60, Valley 49

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Kingston Christen fired in 31 points as the Blue Eagles defeated the visiting Lumberjacks. He had five bonus goals.

Noah Hood added 10 points for the winners.

Trevor Stackpole (20) and Gavin Derby (19) combined for all but 10 of Valley’s points.

Monroe Central 72, Shenandoah 32

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles led 18-7 after one quarter before extending the margin to 43-10 at the half and coasting past the visiting Zeps.

Tyler Whitacre and Cadyn Silva each scored 13 points for Monroe Central, while Chance Allen added 10. Tucker Howell and Cooper Howell evenly split 18 as 10 players scored.

Carsten Smith led Shenandoah with 10.

Frontier 67, Beallsville 25

BEALLSVILLE — Avery Powell netted 24 points in leading the visiting Cougars past the Blue Devils.

Gabe Eing had 11 points for Beallsville.

Weir 51, Wheeling Park 49 (OT)

WEIRTON — Tied 41-41 at the conclusion of regulation, the Red Riders outlasted the Patriots on Tuesday to come away with an overtime victory inside the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.

Leading Weir in scoring was senior guard Anthony Jeffers, who scored 18, four in overtime, including the go-ahead layup with four seconds remaining. Damir Mowder joined him in double figures with 11 points. Ezell Grays III matched his regulation scoring output in overtime, scoring four in the extra period to finish with eight.

JD Williams led all scorers, the Park junior scoring 23 points and draining four 3-pointers. Josh Huffman followed with 12, making four 3-pointers of his own, and Jay Bordas scored nine. Bordas and Williams each had four in OT.

John Marshall 57, Oak Glen 47

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs moved to 3-1 on the season while Oak Glen suffered their first loss of the season to move to 3-1 themselves.

Preston Watkins poured in 22 for the Monarchs, while Jackson Helms scored 17 for John Marshall. The pair accounted for all six of their team’s 3-point makes, with Watkins putting through four and Helms two. Kayden Knapp scored nine points.

Oak Glen’s Gavin Geisse led his team with 20 points. Will Weekly followed with eight.

John Marshall led 20-12 after the first quarter and 37-25 at halftime.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cameron 67, Hundred 18

HUNDRED — The Dragons overwhelmed the Hornets on the road Tuesday with a dominant two-way performance.

11 Dragons scored Tuesday, led by Maci Neely’s 17 points. Kendra Thomas finished with 12 and Aubrey Thomas had nine. Shaleigh Littleton grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go with a pair of points.

Johni Yeager scored 10 points for Hundred.

With the 17-point effort, Maci Neely currently has 974 points, 26 away from 1,000 on her career.

BOWLING

South Sweeps Division I Baker Event

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Parkersburg South rolled to victories Tuesday at St. Clair Lanes in the OVAC Division I Baker Tournament.

The Wood County Patriots finished with a 1,708 pin total, which was 58 better than runner up Brooke’s 1,650. Morgantown was third at 1,613; University fourth at 1,583 and Wheeling Park fifth with 1,561. Weir had a 1,546 and John Marshall a 975.

In girls action, Parkersburg South coasted to a 1,550 to 1,306 triumph over second-place Wheeling Park. John Marshall was third at 1,164; Brooke fourth with 1,141 and University fifth at 1,067.
