Brooke dominates Edison by 36 points Friday night

WELLSBURG — The Brooke boys’ basketball team broke through offensively against Edison as the Bruins pulled away for a big win.

It was a back-and-forth game in the first quarter, however, the Bruins outscored the Wildcats by 30 in the final three quarters en route to a 77-41 victory Friday night on Senior Night inside the Brooke Wellness Center.

Three players produced double digits in points for Brooke. Individually, Jamiel McKennen contributed a game-high 19 points to lead the way for the boys from Brooke County, while Andrew Murdock collected 18 and Grant Yost tallied 16.

Isaiah Filburn finished with a team-high eight points for the boys in black, while Bryce Rogers and Kyle Long each recorded seven.

The Bruins took a 22-16 at the end of the first, and they extended their advantage to 38-23 in the second before leading 39-28 at the half. Brooke continued to build its lead in the third as it led 63-36 entering the fourth. The home team led 75-37 at one point in the fourth.

Brooke’s two seniors — Evan Urso and Noah McMahon were honored before the game.

Edison is scheduled to play Trinity Christian in a varsity-only makeup game at 4 p.m. today on the road.

Brooke is slated to play Ripley at 4:30 p.m. in the Rotary Classic down at Magnolia.

Monroe Central 69,

Caldwell 40

CALDWELL — The Seminoles rained down 3’s against Caldwell for an overwhelming victory on Friday.

Monroe Central’s Tucker Howell led all scorers with 24 points, making two of the Seminoles’ dozen 3-pointers.

Caedyn Silva knocked down four 3’s to account for his 12 points. Jacob Fogle also made two triples. With their strong long-range attack, Monroe Central had little need for free throws- Dylan Parden attempted the ‘Noles’ lone freebie attempt with a fourth-quarter and-one.

Caldwell was led by 12 points from Guilder Preston and 11 from Carter Wheeldin.

Tucker County 81,

Magnolia 51

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Mountain Lions got out to a big lead and never looked back against the Blue Eagles.

Tucker County led 20-6 after the first quarter and 37-15 at halftime.

Magnolia’s Kingston Christen led all scorers with 21 points against the visiting Mountain Lions, knocking down two 3’s and going 3-4 from the line.

Mikey Mitchell led Tucker County with 15 points.

Shenandoah 76, River 54

SHENANDOAH — The Zeps picked up a home win Friday.

Peyton Blue led River with 22 points, Crestyn Isaly scored 12 points, and Evan Longwell followed with eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cameron 36, West Green 28

CAMERON — The Dragons defeated their visitors from the Keystone State on Friday, topping the Pioneers with a stout defensive effort.

The most points the Pioneers scored in a quarter was nine, coming in the opening frame as Cameron owned a one-point 10-9 lead. The Dragons led 18-15 at halftime and 28-22 after three.

Maci Neely led the Dragons with 12 points and five rebounds. The senior went 6-7 from the line. Devan Schrack followed with nine points and nine rebounds.

Madelyn Roberts led West Greene with 16 points.
