Linsly Cadets take down Weir’s Red Riders, 80-48

WEIRTON — The Weir boys’ basketball team was looking to get off to a good start against Linsly.

Unfortunately for the Red Riders, that didn’t happen as the Cadets scored the first nine points of the game en route to a 80-48 victory Tuesday night on Ron “Fritz” Williams Court inside the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.

Justin Kaczmarek recorded a team-high 18 points to lead the way offensively for Weir. Syncere Stevenson and Anthony Jeffers each finished with six.

Four players scored in double digits for Linsly. Individually, Ruben Salazar scored a team-high 18 points to lead the way. Also, Adam Gill tallied 16 points, D’arrae Goodwin collected 14 and Uros Petrusic produced 10.

Weir is scheduled to play city-rival Madonna at 6 p.m. tonight inside the Dube Dome. Madonna’s scheduled game against Edison Tuesday at home was postponed.

Linsly is slated to hit the road Saturday to play Westerville Central.

Harrison Central 53,

Toronto 39

CADIZ — The Huskies outscored visiting Red Knights 24-11 in the middle two periods and that proved to be the recipe for a victory.

Harrison Central received 14 points from Reed Arbaugh and 10 from Brady Elliott. EJ Keener added nine.

Toronto’s Brady Fair led all scorers with 17. Austin Buchanan finished with eight.

River 50, Magnolia 40

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Pilots made a big fourth-quarter push and tallied a road win against the Blue Eagles on Tuesday.

Magnolia led 38-35 through three quarters but River won the crucial fourth frame 15-2 to walk out with a victory.

River’s Evan Longwell led all scorers with 15 points, making three 3-pointers. Lucas Dennis scored 14 and Peyton Blue had nine.

Kingston Christen finished with 13 points for Magnolia. Noah Hood was next-highest with eight points.

River made 20 field goals to Magnolia’s 12, but Magnolia won the free throw margin, 10-16 vs. 7-10.

Wheeling Central 80,

Oak Glen 35

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Maroon Knights breezed by the Golden Bears on the road Tuesday, getting scoring contributions from everyone on their bench in a decisive victory.

Max Olejasz led all scorers with 17. Eli Sancomb scored 13, and Luke Sancomb scored nine.

Oak Glen’s Gavin Geisse led his team with eight points.

Wheeling Central improves to 7-1 with the win. Oak Glen falls to 4-7.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

John Marshall 71, Weir 45

MOUNDSVILLE — Rilee Storm had 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Monarchs (6-5) pulled away from the Red Riders.

John Marshall led 15-10 after one quarter; 32-25 at the half and 46-37 at the end of three quarters before outscoring Weir, 25-8, in the pivotal fourth quarter.

Kalyn Reese also posted a double-double for the Monarchs with 18 points and 10 boards.

Reyna Hoover had 20 points for the Red Riders.

The Monarchs host University on Thursday. The Hawks defeated Wheeling Park Tuesday night.

Patriots Roll Past Monarchs

Boys

Wheeling Park posted a 1,967 to 1,170 victory over John Marshall as Kaden Miller rolled games of 248 and 201 for a nifty 449. Sam Metzner had a 202 game and a 378 series.

Girls

Wheeling Park slipped by John Marshall 1,632 to 1,628.

Emma Wear led the way with a 194 game and a 351 series. Erin Elswick with a 168 game.

The Monarchs were led by Mylie Scott with a 306 series and Shelby Crow with a 166 game.

Bellaire 61, Shadyside 26

BELLAIRE — Zara Harveth exploded for 30 points as the Big Reds romped past the visiting Tigers inside the ‘House of Champions.’ She was 11-for-26 from the floor, including 7-for-20 from three-point land. She also grabbed seven rebounds.

Rhyan O’Grady added 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists for Bellaire. Aubree Hines had six points and five boards.

Kaci Tsoras led Shadyside with 17 points.

Harrison Central 42, Edison 38

The Huskies (9-5) slipped past the Wildcats as Kara Blackburn buried four treys for 12 points. Lauren Doane added eight points and 14 rebounds, while Maddie Sedgmer had six points and 10 rebounds. Kennedy Dunlap chipped in 11 rebounds.

Abigail Boka led Edison with 18 points.
