Linsly takes out East Liverpool, 60-37, at MLK Classic

WHEELING — Haylen Cook netted 26 points as Linsly took out visiting East Liverpool, 60-37, Monday afternoon during the MLK Classic inside the Stifel Center on the Linsly campus.

Cook had seven points as Linsly led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and 33-13 at halftime. Cook scored 13 of her points in the third quarter to put the Cadets up 56-23 going into the fourth.

She was joined in double digits by Abby White with 12 points and Jade Purpura with 11. They each drained three triples. Irina Margineanu had 10 points.

Chasity Smith led East Liverpool with 19 points.

Bellaire 65, Buckeye Local 23

BELLAIRE — The Big Reds prevailed in the House of Champions on Monday with a 1-2 scoring punch coming from the senior tandem of Zara Harveth and Eliana Mason.

Harveth scored 23 and Mason 18 for Bellaire, who led 24-11 after the first quarter and 39-15 at halftime. Rhyan O’Grady added a dozen.

Karly Koran led Buckeye Local with seven points.

Union Local 65, John Marshall 38

BELMONT — The Jets defended homecourt Monday against the Monarchs.

John Marshall was led by Rilee Storm’s 12 points and Masyn Inclan’s nine.

The Monarchs trailed 16-9 after the first quarter and 38-19 at halftime.

Toronto 58, Bridgeport 24

TORONTO — The Red Knights locked down on defense and heated up on offense over the course of their home victory over the Bulldogs.

Toronto scored 10 points in the first quarter to lead 10-3, but nearly doubled that output in the second quarter to lead 29-10 at halftime.

Jayna Reeves led the Red Knights with 19 points. Tatum Derrington and Josie Dickinson each scored 11.

Hanna Brewer led Bridgeport with nine.

Beaver Local, Martins Ferry, East Liverpool

Men

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Beavers topped the Purple Riders and Potters while East Liverpool outscored the Riders in a three-way competition Monday at the Calcutta YMCA.

Martins Ferry’s relay of Logan Strope, Danny Amos, Hayden Tinnel and Vinnie West came in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Women

EAST LIVERPOOL — Martins Ferry topped East Liverpool, and the Beavers won their head-to-heads against the Purple Riders and Potters in a three-way competition.

The Martins Ferry 200-yard medley relay team of Andrea Rodriguez-Olivero, Maleigha Schultz, Myah Schultz and Morgan Bintz won first place in the event.

Wheeling Park 62, Buckhannon-Upshur 58

WHEELING — Jay Bordas scored 15 points to lead a trio in double figures as the Patriots slipped past the visiting Buccaneers inside the ‘Palace on the Hill.’

Kolten Whitmire added 14 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists in an all-around performance. JD Williams added a dozen markers and Sincear Saunders-Paige had 10.
