Ohio Valley Ironmen sign two more players for 2025

The Ohio Valley Ironmen continue to form their inaugural roster with the signings of their second and third players for the 2025 International Football Alliance season.

Running back Terrelle West, a Middle Tennessee State grad, and safety Esaias Gandy, a three-year starter for Wyoming, have been added to the fold, according to General Manager/Head Coach Manny Matsakis.

West, 5-9, 193, played four years (2016-19) for the Blue Raiders.

He saw action in 42 games during his career, making nine starts. Originally a defensive back, he was switched to running back during his freshman season and accounted for 1,064 yards while scoring 10 touchdowns. He is also a receiving threat out of the backfield with three dozen catches.

“Terrelle is a prototype superback in our Triple Shoot offense. He’s smart, explosive and has the leadership skills to oversee our protection unit,” Matsakis said. “I had the privilege to coach Terrelle in Fan-Controlled football where he was known for his shiftiness and blazing speed. At Middle Tennessee State he had a knack for making plays versus top level opponents.”

During his junior season, West ran for 74 yards on 17 carries against then-No. 3 Georgia.

A native of Pinson, Ala., West holds the career rushing record at Clay-Chalkville High School with 3,530 yards. According to 247 Sports, he was a three-star recruit out of high school.

The 6-1, 193-pound Gandy averaged 7.3 tackles per game his senior season (2020) with the Cowboys, which ranked him No. 11 in the Mountain West Conference. His 45 total tackles and 23 solo stops were both second on the team. He also finished third on the team with 4.5 tackles for lost yardage.

“Esaias fits the role of a hard-hitting safety who can also lockdown receivers in man coverage and that’s critical in our defensive scheme,” Matsakis said. “As a three-year starter for Wyoming, he exhibited the potential to ultimately play in the NFL.”

The Aurora, Colorado native was primarily a special teams performer during his first three seasons in Wyoming, he saw action in nearly 50 games during his career in Laramie. He was rated the No. 17 recruit by 247 Sports in Colorado as a senior at Denver South High School.

The Ironmen also announced the hiring of a media relations director. Bishop Donahue and West Liberty graduate Joe Myers was selected for the position.

Ohio Valley will open its home portion of the season on Sat., June 14 when the San Antonio Callaberos invade Monarch Stadium in Moundsville. The Ironmen will make their IFA debut a week earlier in Baltimore.
