OVAC wrestlers capture titles at annual Panther Classic wrestling tournament
CONNORVILLE — John Marshall crowned four individual champions while finishing second in the team race at the annual Panther Classic wrestling tournament at Buckeye Local High School on Saturday.
Kaden Harding (144), Waylon Wyckoff (150), Brooks Harrison (165) and Maverick Lemasters (175) all won their respective weight classes for the Monarchs, which totalled 235.5 points. Indian Valley won with 249.5.
Several other OVAC wrestlers captured titles, those being Buckeye Local’s Nathan Dentz (106); Bridgeport’s Robert Weekley (120); Martins Ferry’s Colton Nixon (126); Indian Creek’s Ethan Starr (132); and Southern Local’s Johnny Bailey (190).
Wheeling Central had a pair of runner ups in Tylique Marshall (106) and Issac Martin (215), while John Marshall’s Carter Adkins (132) also finished second.
Barnesville Places Second
NEW LEXINGTON — The Shamrocks amassed 254 points to finish runner up to the host Panthers (282) at the prestigious Jimmy Wood Invitational.
Ayden King (165) continued his impressive campaign with Barnesville’s lone title. Easton Stephen (106) and Hines Ford (175) were each second.
Steubenville Finishes Runner Up
WELLSBURG — Big Red had two champions and 198 points as Cathedral Prep School of Erie, Pa., won the Fred Ferguson Classic at Brooke High School with 234.5.
Steubenville’s Cooper Smith (144) and Brody Saccoccia (157) earned individual championships. Beau Hudson (285) was second.
Wheeling Park’s Jameson Maynard (190) won his weight class, while teammates Jack Lowe (150), Isaac Sands (165), Noah White (175) and Malaki Washington (215) all finished second. The Patriots were fourth as a team with 122 points.
Two Win Titles At Bulldog Invite
EAST PALESTINE — Steubenville Catholic’s Chris Hermann (132) and Toronto’s Heath Thomas (285) were the only two titlists in this event.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Magnolia 65, Cameron 44
CAMERON — Kingston Christen scored 24 points and Dubial Greathouse added 14 as the Blue Eagles flew past the Dragons.
Eli Midcap finished with 10 for Magnolia, which also received nine from Hunter Oates.
Cuyler McCauley led Cameron with 11. Colin Magers added nine.
George Washington 57, Wheeling Park 32
WHEELING — The Patriots fell to No. 3 George Washington on Saturday.
JD Williams led with nine points for Park. Josh Huffman scored eight.
Noah Lewis finished with a team-high 12 for GW.

Martins Ferry 54, Monroe Central 34
MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders had three players in double figures with Lindsey Best leading the way with 18 as they rolled past the Seminoles inside Tolbert Gymnasium.
SJ Koller added 13 and Giana Chirpas had a dozen for the winners.
Brylee McFrederick paced Monroe Central with 14.
Harrison Central 52, Brooke 18
CADIZ — The Huskies continued their fine season by roaring past the visiting Bruins.
Lauren Doane led three Harrison Central players in twin digits with 18 points. Maddie Sedgmer and Mikayla Pelegreen each added 11.
Barnesville 53, Shadyside 31
SHADYSIDE — Maddie Tyson scored 11 points and Lydia Fuchs added 10 as the Shamrocks defeated the Tigers.
Aiva Leasure and Mallory Kiser each had eight.
Giovanna Hines had 10 for Shadyside. Kaci Tsoras chipped in eight.
Bridgeport 42, Hundred 18
BRIDGEPORT — Hannah Brewer netted 27 points as the Bulldogs stung the Hornets. Allanah Summers added 10.
Only three players scored for Hundred.
