Wheeling Central Maroon Knights charge pass Monroe Central

EAST WHEELING — Wheeling Central (10-0) used 24 points from Kaitlyn Blake and 21 more from Addie Payton in thumping visiting Monroe Central, 79-51, in girls’ basketball action Monday inside the Wheeling Central Activities Center.

Seneca Heller had seven of her 11 points in the second quarter when the Maroon Knights went on a 20-7 scoring advantage to break the game open.

Bella Fitzsimmons added 13 markers.

Payton drilled five three-point goals. Fitzsimmons had two.

Brylee McFrederick had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Seminoles (9-6). Mayzie Emery had 11 points, four assists and two steals.

Valley 48, Clay-Battelle 34

PINE GROVE — The Lumberjills defended home court Monday against the CeeBees behind a big first quarter that saw Valley get off to a 20-10 start.

Laken Dawson led the way with 15 points for Valley, making two 3-pointers in the Lumberjills’ fast first quarter.

Kynnedi Dallison followed with 11, and Michaela Miller scored nine.

Ali Hellyer scored 15 points for Clay-Battelle.

Valley’s defense held Clay-Battelle to four points in the third quarter. They led 29-18 at halftime and 40-22 after three quarters.

Martins Ferry 75, Buckeye Local 18

CONNORVILLE — The visiting Purple Riders sprinted to a 33-4 lead after one quarter and coasted past the Panthers.

Giana Chirpas led four players in double figures with 16 for Martins Ferry. Sidne Sidon added 15, SJ Koller 12 and Lindsey Best 10.

Maddy Roset had 16 of Buckeye Local’s points.

Steubenville 48, East Liverpool 22

STEUBENVILLE – After dropping a pair of hard-fought games to some stout competition to start January, Steubenville bounced back with a dominant victory over visiting East Liverpool Monday night inside the Crimson Center.

Big Red held the visitors in single digits in all four quarters and used a big first half to take control.

Nylah McShan led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds. Big Red got 12 different players into the game and eight of them added to the scoresheet.

Lucy Saccoccia followed McShan’s performance with eight points, while Bailee Beall netted a pair of 3s to finish with six, one more than Cianna Scurry’s five. Five of the eight players to score had a 3-pointer.

After opening a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, Big Red out-scored the Potters (7-9) 18-3 in the second quarter to lead 35-11 at the break and were able to cruise from there.

East Liverpool was led by six points from Kenzi Headly and five from Cate Davis.

East Liverpool 62, Harrison Central 43

CADIZ — The visiting Potters received 23 points from Nate Birch in rolling past the Huskies.

Brycen Kamarec and Brady Elliott each scored 12 points for Harrison Central.

Brooke Splits With Beaver

CALCUTTA — The Bruins received a 177 game and 347 series from Darion Hilton in defeating the Beavers, 1,893 to 1,681 in boys’ action. Seth Schroeder added a 178 game.

In girls action, the Bruins fell 1,402 to 1,330 as Kaylee Tuttle had a 307 series with games of 150 and 157.
