Big Red sinks visiting River Pilots, 52-47
STEUBENVILLE — Nylah McShan scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and Big Red managed to hold off the visiting Pilots on Monday, 52-47, in a battle between OVAC 2A champion River and 5A runner-up Steubenville.
McShan finished with a game-high 30, scoring 23 in the second half. Steubenville went into the fourth quarter down 36-31.
Kaylee Hagan led River with 20 points, making four 3-pointers. Reese Hobbs scored 12 for the Pilots.
Cianna Scurry scored nine for Big Red.
John Marshall 45,
Indian Creek 40
WINTERSVILLE — The John Marshall Monarchs claimed a road victory over newly-crowned OVAC 4A champion Indian Creek on Monday.
Rilee Storm scored 20 points to lead John Marshall, followed by Kaylee White’s 13.
Storm made four 3-pointers in the victory. The junior also grabbed eight rebounds, tied for the team-high with Kalyn Reese. White dished six assists.
Indian Creek was led by Gracie Klinesmith’s 12.
John Marshall got off to a 12-4 lead after the first quarter, and the two teams played to a virtual standstill the rest of the way.
This was John Marshall’s fifth win in a row. Their next game is on Feb. 19 at Brooke.
Wheeling Central 84,
Buckhannon-Upshur 51
BUCKHANNON — Kaitlyn Blake scored 31 points and Seneca Heller added 27 as the Maroon Knights (17-2) showed no signs of OVAC hangover after claiming the 3A championship Saturday.
Wheeling Central led 25-23 at the half but put up 27 points in the third quarter and 22 in the fourth to pull away from the Buccaneers.
Blake had 13 of her game-high total in the decisive third panel. Heller had 11 in the first quarter to get the visitors off to a good start.
Addie Payton finished with 13 points for the Maroon Knights who host Charleston Catholic on Friday.
Cameron 59, Magnolia 38
CAMERON — The Dragons landed back into the regular season after their OVAC Championship victory with a win over the Blue Eagles on Monday.
Maci Neely poured in 26 to go with seven steals and six rebounds. Kendra Thomas scored 11, Macey Bertram scored eight to go with seven steals and Shaleigh Littleton scored eight to go with six rebounds.
Kaylee Yost paced Magnolia with 20 points.
Shadyside 55, Bridgeport 22
SHADYSIDE — Kaci Tsoras scored as many points as the Bulldogs did in the Tigers’ 33-poinr rout.
Giovanna Hines added 18 for Shadyside.
Hannah Brewer had 16 points for Bridgeport.
The Tigers led 13-0 after one quarter and 28-5 at the half.
Barnesville 50, St. Clairsville 13
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Maddie Tyson scored 27 points as the Shamrocks rolled past the Red Devils on John Jenkins Court. Aiva Leasure added 11 for Barnesville.
Elizabeth Morgan had four to lead St. Clairsville.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Notre Dame 47, Cameron 45
CLARKSBURG — The Fighting Irish took a home victory by slim margins over the Dragons.
Colin Magers scored 18 for Cameron, as did Brayden Helmick for Notre Dame.
Mason Scott scored 12 for the Dragons. He and Magers combined to knock down six 3-pointers.
Cameron led 22-21 at halftime, and Notred Dame led 35-32 after three quarters.
