Martin Ferry breaks out in fourth against Wheeling Central
MARTINS FERRY — Martins Ferry led Wheeling Central by one point after three quarters Saturday inside Tolbert Gymnasium, but held the Maroon Knights scoreless in the fourth en route to a 56-43 victory in girls’ basketball action.
Giana Chirpas netted seven of her nine points in the decisive quarter.
Lindse Sidon fired in three of her five treys in the first quarter as the hosts held a slim 19-17 advantage. The Purple Riders led 32-27 at the half and 44-43 at the end of three.
Sidon finished with a game-high 17 points, which was one better than Lindsey Best. Maddie Lucas contributed nine.
Wheeling Central, which didn’t attempt a free throw the entire game, was led by Kaitlyn Blake and Bella Fitzsimmons with 10 points each. Seneca Heller added eight.

WHEELING — Alexis Bordas continued her torrid scoring and the Patriots delivered an overtime win on their home floor Saturday against the Wildcats.
Bordas finished with a 42-point effort which included a perfect 15-15 effort at the foul line. The two-time state Player of the Year also finished with five rebounds three assists and three steals.
Maggie Hupp recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for Park and Karringtyn Miller finished with eight points for the Patriots.

WILLIAMSON — Ava Dunn scored 21 points as the hosts prevailed in a battle of Wildcats. Ashton Wade had 14 points for Paden City. Kimberly Burch had the other eight.

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The host Blue Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 25-2 in the decisive second quarter.
Sienna McKeever paced Magnolia with 17 points.
Hannah Brewer had 15 for Bridgeport.

St. Clairsville 70, John Marshall 55
MOUNDSVILLE — Tyson Pastor scored 21 of his 27 points in the middle two quarters as the Red Devils pulled away from the Monarchs inside the John Marshall Field House. The senior had 13 in the second quarter and eight in the third.
Brady Schafer added 18 points and Griffin Straub finished with a dozen.
Landon Snyder led John Marshall with 15. Briar Haught added 10. Hayden Gaiser and Kayden Knapp evenly split 18.
River 45, Bridgeport 35
HANNIBAL — The Pilots ran away with a win in the fourth quarter Saturday, winning the all-important period 20-7 to defeat the Bulldogs.
Peyton Blue led River with 16 points, 11 coming in the fourth quarter, which turned a three-point deficit into a 10-point final advantage.
Evan Longwell finished with 11 and Lucas Dennis nine for the Pilots.
Coen Brinker led Bridgeport with nine points coming by way of three 3-pointers.
Monroe Central 68, Shadyside 32
SHADYSIDE — Corbin Farnsworth led three Seminoles in double figures with 15 points as they rolled past the Tigers. Caedyn Sliva added 14 and Tucker Howell 12. Jacob Fogle had nine.
Shadyside was paced by Brandon O’Grady with nine points.

MORRISTOWN — Brandon Mehl knocked down four triples en route to 17 points as the Jets (13-5) earned a season sweep of the Warriors inside ‘The Hangar.’
Dre Saunders stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Brody Gregor added 13 points, four boards and handed out four assists. Billy Schumacher had 10 points.

WINTERSVILLE — The Redskins jumped out to a 15-0 lead after eight minutes and never looked back in rolling past the Shamrocks.
Mason Lester tallied 13 points for Indian Creek. Nickey Eddy had 10.
Braedon Willis knocked down four threes among his 15 points for Barnesville. Casey Carpenter added 11.
