Steubenville Catholic takes down Toronto, 57-39
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Catholic — the No. 5 seed — led No. 8 seed Toronto by just four points with less than five minutes remaining in the first half, however, the Crusaders ripped off a 9-0 run to gain control of the game en route to a 57-39 victory in an Ohio Division VII Eastern District Sectional Semifinal Wednesday night inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium.
With the win, Catholic Central will play No. 1 seed Hiland in a sectional co-final at 1 p.m. Saturday on the road.
The Crusaders led 14-7 at the end of the first.
Catholic Central extended their advantage to 30-17 at halftime.
The Crusaders led by more than 20 in the fourth before the Red-and-White went on a little run. Toronto ended up outscoring Catholic Central, 13-11, in the fourth to account for the final score.
Mara Delaney delivered a team-high 18 points to lead the way offensively for Catholic Central, while Mary Rohde recorded 15.
Jaya Reeves recorded a game-high 21 points to lead the way for the Red Knights, while Tatum Derrington tallied 13.
Valley 72, Hundred 21
PINE GROVE — Laken Dawson was on fire from beyond the arc Wednesday as the senior put through eight 3-pointers and the Lumberjills defeated the Hornets at home.
Dawson finished with 32 points to lead all scorers. Michaela Miller scored 14 for Valley.
Addy LaRue and Lizzie Robb each scored six for Hundred.
Steubenville 56, Zanesville 42
STEUBENVILLE – Steubenville advanced with a opening-round victory over Zanesville in the OHSAA sectionals inside the Crimson Center.
Big Red, the No. 3 seed, scored the first 14 points of the game and looked poised to run away with things, but the fifth-seeded Blue Devils started to create turnovers and used a 15-6 run to pull back within five.
Big Red went on a 15-2 run to start the fourth quarter, all but putting things away building the lead to as many 22 points.
Nylah McShan was again the catalyst for Big Red, netting a game-high 27 points in another double-double effort. She went 12 of 18 from the foul line, where Big Red as a team converted on 15 of 28 attempts.
Lucy Saccoccia finished with 11 points, while Phynyx Fleming tallied nine and Bailee Beall six.
Big Red advances to travel to No. 2 seed Dover on Saturday at 1 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cameron 65, Paden City 16
CAMERON — The Dragons cruised to a home victory over the Wildcats on Wednesday, getting 18 points from Colin Magers and 12 apiece from Camden Frye and Carter Paczewski.
Paden City was led by five from Brayden Neff.

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs claimed all 14 weight classes — five each by pins and forfeits — in blanking the visiting Red Devils on Senior Night inside the Monarch Field House.
Clayton Pyles-Dugas (120), Mikey Logsdon (126), Kaden Harding (144), Waylon Myckoff (150) and Brooks Harrison (165) all won by falls. Nathan Hughes (113) earned a major decision and Maverick Lemasters (175) and Isaac Swauger (285) won by decisions.
Harlee Young (106), Carter Adkins (132), Zander ward (138), Gavin Myers (190) and Levi Clegg (215) were awarded forfeits.
