Union Local defeats visiting Beaver Local 66-55

MORRISTOWN — Bill Schumacher connected for 22 points while Brandon Mehl (18) and Dre Saunders (12) combined for 30 more as Union Local defeated visiting Beaver Local, 66-55, Friday night in boys’ high school basketball action inside ‘The Hangar.’

Owen Hill had 19 for the Beavers.

Wheeling Central 88,

Oak Glen 16

EAST WHEELING — Eli Sancomb led three Maroon Knights in double digits with 15 points, one more than Troy Anthony.

Tyler Dean added 11, while Max Olejasz had nine. Luke Sancomb and Dominic Gianangeli evenly divided 16.

Wheeling Central led 25-3 after one quarter and 46-9 at the half.

John Marshall 78, Weir 64

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs held off the visiting Red Riders by meshing 24 of 33 free throws inside the Monarchs Field House.

They tickled the twine to the tune of 17-for-21 in the fourth quarter alone, with Landon Snyder knocking down 9 of 10.

Kayden Knapp led three John Marshall players in twin figures with 19 points. Briar Haught added 17 and Jackson Helms 16.

Damir Mowder paced Weir with 18.

St. Clairsville 68, Brooke 39

WELLSBURG — Brady Schafer scored a career-high 28 points as the Red Devils remained red-hot with a 29-point victory inside the Wellness Center at Brooke High School.

Tyson Pastor added 13 markers for the winners, while Griffin Straub had 12.

Andrew Murdock led Brooke with a dozen.

St. Clairsville travels to the ‘Palace on the Hill’ tonight to face Wheeling Park.

Monroe Central 76,

River 22

WOODSFIELD — With nine points Friday night, Tucker Howell became the Monroe Central program’s all-time leading scorer. Howell now has 1,613 career points, surpassing Mitch Hannahs’ mark of 1,605 set at Skyvue.

Chance Allen led the way with 21 points. Dylan Parden added 10.

Evan Longwell paced the Pilots with eight.

Parkersburg South 41, Wheeling Park 33

PARKERSBURG — J.D. Williams scored 14 points but the Patriots dropped a road encounter to the Big Reds.

Jay Bordas had seven rebounds for Wheeling Park. Nate Simon added five. Josh Huffman had four assists and three steals.

Parkersburg Catholic 53, Cameron 41

CAMERON — The Dragons (3-9) received 18 points from Colin Magers while Mason Scott added nine.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley 37, Trinity 35

PINE GROVE — The Lumberjills narrowly fended off the Warriors on Friday at home, helped by 19 points from Laken Dawson.

Dawson made three 3-pointers in the game, while Trinity made two as a team. She was followed in scoring by Elynn Derby with seven.

Trinity was led by Kaylin Kurilko with 19.
