Ferry girls fall to Wheeling Park, 11-3
MARTINS FERRY — The Patriots scored nine runs in the first four innings and never looked back in pasting the debuting error-prone Purple Riders.
Harmony Bittner blasted a bases-clearing double to account for three runs batted in. Winning pitcher Delaney Randolph singled thrice, drove in two runs and struck out 10 in allowing four hits.
Alivia West knocked in a run with a pair of singles and Bryn Ernest singled and tripled to plate a runner.
Abby Snedeker singled, doubled and drove in a run for Martins Ferry. Mikayla Cole had two singles and an RBI.
BASEBALL
Wheeling Park 6, Parkersburg South 5
PARKERSBURG — Wheeling Park (4-0) remained unbeaten in high school baseball action on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Parkersburg South by scores of 6-5 and 8-4.
In the opener, the Patriots bunched together four runs in the third inning and added single runs in the fourth and sixth.
Kolten Whitmire had two singles and a double to lead Wheeling Park’s 10-hit attack. Jaxon Updegraff singled twice and drove in two runs. Nate Simon and Ryland Robb combined for four singles and a pair of ribbies. Rocco DiGiandomenico had an RBI single.
Miles Gorby, the third Patriots pitcher, earned the win.
Wheeling Park 8, Parkersburg South 4
DiGiandomenico singled and doubled twice to plate a run as the Patriots completed the sweep.
They trailed 4-1 after four innings, but plated three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Whitmire and Simon each singled twice, with Whitmire having two RBI and Simon one.
Dayron VanFossen picked up the win in relief of DiGiandomenico. Simon earned the save. The trio teamed on a two-hitter
John Marshall 14, Weir 9
WEIRTON — The Monarchs improved to 2-0 by scoring five times in the top of the eighth to outlast the Red Riders.
Mason Markonich drove in a run with a double and triple for John Marshall. Kain Ankrom had a double and drove in four runs. Tommy Clegg and Hayden Gaiser each singled, doubled and plated two runs.
Lucas McAllister doubled, homered and knocked in three runs for Weir.
Jesse McDowell earned the win in relief.
Cameron 9, West Greene, Pa. 3
CAMERON — Kason Angel struck out 15 batters, singled and homered to drive in two runs as the Dragons debuted with a win. Angel did surrender two singles and walked a batter.
Soier Reed slugged a three-run double and Anthony Bellance singled in a run.
