High School Roundup: Lucas K’s 10 vs. Cadets, Park Comes Back vs. Oak Glen
WHEELING – Maddie Lucas struck out 10, walked two and surrendered a pair of singles as Martins Ferry blanked host Linsly, 10-0, in high school softball action Tuesday at Holloway Field.
Lucas also helped her own cause with a single and double that produced a run.
Giana Chirpas drove in five runs with a double and home run. Gracie Lucas and Alivia Reese had run-scoring singles. Abby Snedeker had a double.
Wheeling Park 14, Oak Glen 6
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Patriots were down, but not out.
Trailing 4-1 going into the fifth inning, Wheeling Park scored 13 runs between the fifth and sixth innings to take a run-rule victory over the Golden Bears on the road.
Delaney Randolph recorded the victory on the mound, pitching the compete game. The senior also smacked a home run and finished with four RBI. Brenna Tipton, Bryn Ernest and Abby Harmon also had multi-RBI games with two apiece.
Danica Holden had a triple and two RBI for Oak Glen.
Buckeye Trail 7, Shadyside 6
OLD WASHINGTON – The Warriors defended their homefield against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Shadyside mounted a ferocious comeback in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to pull within a single score, but were shut out in the seventh.
Gwen McElwain pitched the entire game for Buckeye Trail, striking out 12. Only one of the six runs scored against her were earned.
Shadyside had three extra base hits, all doubles, one apiece from Ariana Saxton, Ali Weatherson and Brianna Harris.
BASEBALL
John Marshall 2, Parkersburg 1
PARKERSBURG – The Monarchs eked out a road victory over the Big Reds on Tuesday to compl;ete a regular-season sweep.
Jacob Cisar earned the win on the mound, pitching the first four innings and surrendering one unearned run. Mason Markonich pitched the final three frames allowing only two hits and no walks to earn the save.
Catcher Cain Martin was credited with three steals. John Marshall had six as a team. They had three hits while Parkersburg had six. Neither team had an extra-base hit.
John Marshall scored one run in the first and another in the second. Parkersburg tacked on their lone tally in the bottom of the third. The Big Reds committed four errors.
Jefferson County Christian 22 Hundred 3
CADIZ – Jefferson County Christian cruised to a 22-3 victory against Hundred. Wyatt Hervey struck out six and gave up one hit while blanking the Hornets in four innings of work.
Hervey, Carl Bonecutter, Aiden Howard and Lee Gump homered for the Royals.
