Bridgeport 11, River 1

CADIZ – Harrison Central put some distance between itself and Indian Creek in the OVAC Class 4A standings with a 2-1 victory Thursday night.

Kara Blackburn had run-scoring singles in the first and fifth innings to lead the Huskies.

Emma Skinner went the first six innings inside the circle, striking out two and walking a pair. Mikayla Pelegreen pitched the seventh to earn the save.

Riley Sadler singled twice and drove in Indian Creek’s lone tally. Payton Rath had a double.

Bridgeport 11, River 1

BRIDGEPORT – Vanessa Mullen scattered three hits in a route-going performance as the Bulldogs strengthened their grip on the No. 2 spot in the Class AA standings. She also tripled.

Addie Snodgrass belted a three-run triple for Bridgeport and Kate Jacksojn doubled in a pair.

Ava Wohnhas had a run-scoring triple for the Pilots. Mallorie Maddy doubled.

Martins Ferry 14, St. Clairsville 4

MARTINS FERRY – The Purple Riders (12-1) continued their red-hot play by sweeping the struggling Red Devils high atop the Purple City.

In the opener, Averi Hughes doubled three times to drive in five runs and Maddie Lucas clubbed two home runs to plate four runs.

Abby Snedeker got the win inside the circle.

In the nightcap, Snedeker drove in five runs with two singles while Giana Chirpas knocked in three with a single, two doubles and a home run. Gracie Lucas drove in two runs with a pair of one-base raps.

Martins Ferry holds down the top spot in a tightly bunched Class AAA and visits Barnesville today at 5 p.m. The Shamrocks are currently third in Class AAA, just ahead of Wheeling Central.

Shadyside 5, Shenandoah 4

SARAHSVILLE – The Tigers’ Ariana Saxton and Josey Greenwood starred in the Tigers road victory Thursday over the Zeps.

Saxton threw a complete game and struck out 15 batters, walking none, while Greenwood walloped a double and a home run in finishing with two RBI at the plate.

The Tigers scored two in the top of the first and led 4-2 after four innings. A two-spot by Shenandoah in the bottom of the sixth wasn’t enough to tie the game.

Only two of Shenandoah’s runs were earned.

Monroe Central 10, Union Local 7

WOODSFIELD – The Seminoles completed their regular-season sweep of the visiting Jets as Maclarin Craft had an early RBI single and a two-run homer in the sixth.

Jadyn Miller singled and doubled to produce a run, while Olivia Earley doubled in a run.

Laken Vinskovich doubled and tripled for Union Local. Lil Blakley doubled twice and Alli Kellaway slugged a two-run home run.

BASEBALL

Indian Creek 5, Harrison Central 0

CADIZ – The Redskins kept pace with St. Clairsville for the top seed in next week’s OVAC Class 4A playoffs as Sy Barcalow struck out four, walked a pair and allowed three hits. He also singled twice.

Marshall University signee Ty Householder belted a solo home and Hunter Rusnak sparked a four-run fourth with a two-run single.

Anthony Pelegreen singled and doubled for Harrison Central.

The same two teams meet again today in Wintersville.

Tyler Consolidated 10, St. Marys 5

ST. MARYS – Brennan Miller struck out 11, didn’t walk a batter as the Silver Knights doubled up the host Blue Devils.

Gabe Jackson drove in two runs for Tyler Consolidated with a single and double. Landon Boggs and Sawyer Kunkle each singled twice and plated a run.

Bridgeport 4, Shenandoah 1

BROOKSIDE – Freshman Conner Nelson struck out 13 and allowed just three singles as the Bulldogs defeated the Zeps on the Niekro Diamond.

Carson Sauvageot had an RBI double for Bridgeport.
