High School Roundup: Monarchs Fall To Visiting Mohigans; Pilots Drop Outing vs. Caldwell

GLEN DALE – The Morgantown Mohigans snagged a road win over the John Marshall Monarchs on Wednesday, scoring three runs on three hits in the 3-1 victory.

Vincent Aloi pitched the complete game for Morgantown, allowing five hits and issuing two walks.

Jayden Astipalitis hit a double for John Marshall, while Kain Ankrom recorded an RBI. Ankrom also pitched the final two innings of the game for John Marshall, striking out four, issuing one walk and not allowing a hit.

Jacob Cisar started the game for the Monarchs, pitching five innings with four strikeouts and allowing two runs, one earned.

John Marshall committed three errors in the field Wednesday.

Caldwell 6, River 3

HANNIBAL – The Pilots fell to Caldwell on Wednesday, despite out-hitting their opponents 7-5.

River hindered their own cause against visiting Caldwell, committing five errors in the game. Only three of Caldwell’s six runs were earned.

Caldwell committed two errors of their own. Only one of River’s three runs went down as earned.

Peyton Blue doubled and drove in a run while Easton Huntsman hit two doubles and also had an RBI. Cale Willis also drove in a run.

Indian Creek 4, Buckeye Local 1

CONNORVILLE – Sy Barcalow doubled twice to drive in a run and went the distance on the hill, striking out three, walking four and scattering four hits as the Redskins swept their home-and-home series with the Panthers.

James Brothers doubled in a run and Sylus Hyde single in another.

Wyatt Luyster doubled twice for Buckeye Local. Kaleb Stang added an RBI double.

SOFTBALL

Bridgeport 8, Shadyside 3

SHADYSIDE – The visiting Bulldogs scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back in sweeping the Tigers.

Vanessa Mullen struck out 13 and didn’t walk a batter in 6.1 innings of work. She gave way to Hanna Brewer who fanned one of the two batters she faced. Mullen also doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs. McKayla Plants had a two-run single.

Kamryn Parker and Jourdan Walker had RBI doubles for Shadyside. Alli Weatherson added a run-scoring single.

Bellaire 8, Cambridge 5

CAMBRIDGE – Addison Kovach came on in relief in the first inning and shut the host Bobcats down the rest of the way at City Park. She struck out eight and walked four. She also singled in a run.

Avery Shaver singled thrice to drive in a run while Lilly Zeller drove in a pair with a single. Khloe Taylor had two singles and an RBI. Emilee Menendez also singled twice.

Caldwell 8, River 0

SARDIS – Makayla Mumaw struck out 14 and came with an error of pitching a perfect game as the Redskins blanked the Pilots, preventing veteran River head coach Dave Wright from his 300th career win.

The game was called due to lightning after five innings.

Cecelia Marshall tripled and homered to drive in five runs for Caldwell.

Bellaire 14, Shadyside 5

ST. JOE – Addison Kovach (3 singles, home run) and Rylie Porter (2 singles, double) both drove in four runs as the Big Reds cruised past the visiting Tigers on the Bellaire Middle School diamond.

Elisa Gillespie and Aubriel Dodds each singled, doubled and knocked in two runs. Bleu Sexton singled thrice.
