John Marshall Bests St. C.; Union Local Takes Narrow Win vs. ‘Noles

MOUNDSVILLE — John Marshall head coach Mark Cisar’s 100th coaching win came in dramatic fashion.

The Monarchs defeated visiting St. Clairsville 13-12 on Thursday, watching as St. C scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game 12-12 before John Marshall walked off the game and got Cisar his milestone.

Runs were aplenty for both teams– For John Marshall, Mason Markonich doubled twice to finish with four hits and an RBI. Cain Martin collected three base hits and had an RBI. Jacob Cisar tallied two RBI and Jesse McDowell also drove one in.

For St. Clairsville, Brody Saunders collected three RBI, pounding out a double and a home run. Colten Florence one-upped his teammate with four RBI, smacking two doubles. Matheson King had two RBI, while Ryan Ivey and Niko Jacob each had one.

Union Local 4, Monroe Central 3

WOODSFIELD — Union Local managed to withstand a feisty Seminoles team which scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Union Local finally broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth, and Colby Carpenter slammed the door on the mound.

Hayden Jenkins tallied two hits for Union Local at the plate.

Brayden Baker homered and drove in two for Monroe Central.

SOFTBALL

Martins Ferry 16, Barnesville 4

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders softball squad lit up the scoreboard on Thursday at home against the Shamrocks in a five-inning home win.

Giana Chirpas, Samantha Goddard and Abbey Snedeker had great days at the plate for Ferry– Chirpas and Snedeker each smashed two homers and finished with three hits apiece. Chirpas drove in six and Snedeker two. Goddard finished with two doubles and a singles to total four RBI.

Gracie Lucas also homered and had two RBI.

Maddie Lucas picked up the win on the mound, striking out three.

Peyton Loudin and Abby Johnson each doubled for Barnesville. Johnson had two RBI, while Loudin and Lilly Welch each had one.

River 6, Magnolia 5

HANNIBAL — The River Pilots plated two in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off with a home win against the Magnolia Blue Eagles on Thursday.

Both teams deployed just one pitcher throughout the extra-inning affair, and both turned in big strikeout numbers. Magnolia’s Mallory McDiffitt and River’s Ava Wohnhas each struck out a dozen.

Jessa Anderson tallied three hits– two doubles– and an RBI for Magnolia, while McDiffitt singled, doubled and tallied two RBI.

Kaylee Hagan had a five-hit day for River– three singles, a double and a triple– while driving in two. Mallory Maddy popped a home run, knocked a triple, and had three RBI.

University 5, Wheeling Central 3

WHEELING — The Hawks got the better of the Maroon Knights behind a 12-strikeout pitching performance from Maddie Campbell.

Campbell also doubled at the plate.

For Wheeling Central, Erin Maxwell hit a home run and a single to lead Central offensively. Olivia Kiaski struck out five inside the circle.

SOFTBALL

Morgantown 3, Wheeling Park 0

MORGANTOWN — The Mohigans defeated the Patriots at home on the back of a complete game two-hitter from pitcher Maddie Wisman.

Wisman struck out six in the win.

Wheeling Park’s Kylah Cunningham and Harmony Bittner each tallied hits for Park, Cunningham hitting a double. Emma Wear struck out five in six innings for the visitors.

Buckeye Local 2, Union Local 1

MORRISTOWN — The Panthers narrowly escaped with a one-run road victory over the Jets.

Buckeye Local scored two in the top of the third inning, and while Union Local got one back in the bottom half of the frame, the scoreboard stayed stagnant the rest of the way.

Karlie Lander struck out 15 for Buckeye, while Danika Bauknecht tallied a single and an RBI.

Kylie Stidd struck out five over six innings for Union Local. Alli Kellaway and Ev Blakely each doubled.
