Purple Riders roll over Weir, Panthers fall to Edison Wildcats
WEIRTON — Martins Ferry kept rolling along in high school softball action Saturday with a nail-biting, 9-7, decision over host Weir (9-1).
The Purple Riders (6-1) had 10 base hits — five for extras — and scored in five of the seven innings.
Ella Mamone blasted a double and home run to drive in three runs, while Averee Hughes had a double and homer that plated two. Giana Chirpas belted a solo home run. Grace Lucas singled in a run.
Loganne Barton blasted a grand slam to highlight a 6-run bottom of the seventh, but Weir’s rally fell short. Eliza Utt and Rayna Hoover each drove in a run with a single and double.
Edison 12, Buckeye Local 2
RICHMOND — The Wildcats tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning and did not look back en route to defeating the Panthers, 12-2, in five innings on an overcast Saturday afternoon out at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
Leighann Anderson had a good day inside the circle and at the plate for the Silver and Black. Anderson recorded the win for Edison, and Anderson delivered a single, two doubles and two RBI at the plate.
Anderson struck out three without walking a batter in her four innings of work as a pitcher.
Buckeye Local used two pitchers in the game.
Karli Lander started the game and was saddled with the loss. Lander struck out one and walked five in 2 1/3 innings of work. She was replaced with one out in the third by Haily Kovalski, who struck out two and walked one in her two innings of relief work.
Offensively for Edison, Ali Shrieve tallied two singles, a double and two RBI, Gracie Dray delivered two singles and two RBI and Chloe Peckens produced a double and an RBI. Also, Bella Cronin contributed a single and two RBI, Abby Boka collected two singles and an RBI and Sophia Henderson chipped in with a single and an RBI.
Adison Muldrew delivered a single for Buckeye Local’s lone hit of the game.

KIDWELL — Brennan Miller hurled a 4-hit shutout for the Silver Knights (5-3), striking out four and walking three.
Reese Davis knocked in three runs with a pair of singles. Brayden Neff stroked a two-run double.
Edison 6, Buckeye Local 0
RICHMOND — Clay Meadows and Cole Pittman teamed on a 1-hitter as the Wildcats blanked the visiting Panthers. Meadows struck out five and walked three. He came within an out of a complete game.
