St. Clairsville girls use depth to capture Buckeye 8 crown

Red Devils pile up 129 points for easy victory

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — St. Clairsville used its depth in winning the girls portion of the annual Buckeye 8 Track and Field Championships Tuesday at Red Devils Stadium. It amassed 129 points to easily outdistance Cambridge which finished with 92.5.

Two individual champs and a pair of winning relay squads powered St. Clairsville, but it was the other 19 placers that keyed the victory.

Ava Borkoski leaped 5-foot, 2-inches to win the high jump, while Ava Crum took the pole vault with a jump of 11-6. The 4×100 relay of Olivia McKeever, Emma Gasber, Crum and Meila King ran a 52.32 seconds to break the tape, while Olivia Perzanowski, Crum, McKeever and Gasber ran a 4-minutes, 20.32-seconds to win the 4×400.

The Red Devils finished with five second-placers, two thirds, three fourths, four fifths, three sixths and a pair of sevenths.

Martins Ferry junior Alanna Williams continued her impressive season by clocking out in 2:13.89 to win the 800 and 5:26.32 to take the 1600. Her 800 time was an elite performance, according to Ohio MileSplit. The Purple Riders’ 4×800 relay team of Lakyn Call, Claire Eddy, Cadence Oberle and Madison Oberle posted a 10:37.98 for first place.

Barnesville’s Lydia Welch putted the shot 35-10.75 and Bellaire’s Alyson Vingia twirled the discus 130-2 to win the weight events.

Bellaire’s Kayla Edgar turned in a 12:33.21 to win the 3200.

Indian Creek’s Trinity Greene won the 100 in 13.22; Dalana Bove ran a 1:02.10 to win the 400 and the Redskins’ 4×200 relay clocked out in 1:53.23.

Buckeye Local’s Jenna Delvecchio captured the 110 high hurdles in 15.15.

Martins Ferry finished third in the team race with 73 points, one more than Barnesville. Bellaire hada 64.

BOYS

East Liverpool won the team title with 130 points, which was 11 better than St. Clairsville. Barnesville was third with 91.5 while Beaver Local and Harrison Central rounded out the top 5 with 81 and 58, respectively.

Bellaire’s Raekwon Pettigrew and Harrison Central’s Jacob Quito ran 1-2 in the 100 and 200, with Pettigrew winning the 100 in 11.53. Quito ran 11.59. In the 200, Quito posted a 23-flat while Pettigrew clocked out in 23.21.

Union Local’s Connor Bendo ran 10:10.37 to win the 3200.

Harrison Central’s Beau Rinkes edged out Barnesville’s Eli Messenger 16.24 to 16.30 to win the 110 high hurdles. Messenger prevailed in the 300 lows in 42.36.

St. Clairsville’s 4×100 team of Ian McLean, Bruno DeFranco, Ollie Muhly and Hunter Orum ran 44.79 for first place.

Buckeye Local’s Shane Griffith took the long jump with a leap of 20-7.25, while Harrison Central’s Trenten Allison won the pole vault at 13-feet.

Beaver Local’s Landen Wheatley and Martins Ferry’s Jermale Thompson both jumped 6-fett in the high jump, but Wheatley won on less attempts.

Bellaire’s Kayse Rejonis won the shot put with a heave of 49-1.75 and Indian Creek’s Geaorge Zadanski won the discus with a toss of 143-9.
