Steubenville girls leave invitational with team title
BELLAIRE — For the third time this season, the Steubenville girls’ track team has walked away from Nelson Field with the team trophy.
Following wins in the Bellaire and Shadyside Relays, Big Red ran away with the Dave Ice Girls Invitational team title Thursday. They scored 129 points and won seven individual events and a pair of relays to easily outdistance second-place Shadyside, which totalled 98.
Freshman Kaycee King continued her dominance in the sprints by winning the 100 and 200 in times of 12.93 and 26.64, respectively. She also led off the winning 4×400 relay squad of Ashley Duggan, Terionah Bickerstaff and Natalie Romanyak who clocked out in 4-minutes, 27.16-seconds.
Duggan also won the 400 in 1:02.57 and ran a leg on the winning 4×200 team of Za’Herryah Herring, Bickerstaff and Addison Snyder that won in a time of 1:55.65.
Romanyak prevailed in the 800 in 2:33.20.
Three of the titles came in the field events where Alivia Vostatek jumped 5-foot, 2-inches in the high jump; Bri Hudson twirled the discus 139-feet, 9-inches and Sarah Ostovich putted the shot 35-3.
The Tigers had individual titlists in Chloe Meholovitch who ran 5:33.02 to win the 800 and Kaci Tsoras with a leap of 8-6 to win the pole vault.
River’s Brooke Huffman captured the high jump with a leap of 5-2, while also running the opening leg of the shuttle hurdles foursome that times out in 1:09.25. She was joined by Mallory Brake, Ashley Miller and Maci Isaly. The 4×100 squad of Kara Miller, Brayleigh Trifonoff, Ashley Miller and Carleigh Trifonoff won with a time of 52.92, while Trifonoff won the long jump in 15-10.
Martins Ferry’s 4×800 team continued its winning ways with a time of 10:33.41. The foursome includes Lakyn Call, Cadence Oberle, Madison Oberle and Ireland Jennette.
Linsly had a pair of champions in Bridget Zimmerman who ran a 14:20.85 in the 3200 and Haylen Cook who topped the 300 hurdles in 50.18.
